West Cumbria Development Agency
Established in 1988 to help regenerate the local economy which had been badly hit by re-structuring, particularly in the steel industry. Its central aim is to help create jobs in the Boroughs of Allerdale and Copeland, which together form West Cumbria.

West Lakes Renaissance
The Urban Regeneration Company for Furness and West Cumbria. WLR aims to co-ordinate existing regeneration activity more effectively and to attract new investment on the scale that is needed to help lift the sub region’s economy. Working with other agencies and public bodies, WLR is focused on creating a knowledge economy based on new skills and business growth.

The Northwest Regional Development Agency
Provides strategic leadership, programmes and funding to ensure the sustainable economic development and regeneration of England’s Northwest, one of the United Kingdom’s largest and most important regions. The NWDA has 5 key priorities: Business, Skills & Education, People and Jobs, Infrastructure and Quality of Life.

The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority
Non-departmental public body, set up in April 2005 under the Energy Act 2004 to take strategic responsibility for the UK’s nuclear legacy. The NDA aim to deliver a world class programme of safe, cost-effective, accelerated and environmentally responsible decommissioning of the UK’s civil nuclear legacy in an open and transparent manner and with due regard to the socio-economic impacts on our communities.

British Nuclear Group
Specialist site management and nuclear clean-up business. Part of the BNFL Group, BNG’s strategy and focus is clear - to deliver accelerated nuclear clean-up programmes, safely and cost-effectively for the Group’s customers in the UK and overseas.

Cumbria County Council
A directly elected body providing a wide range of important public services for the people of Cumbria. The Council is working closely with other agencies to develop business opportunities and regeneration across the county. The Council is also actively working with a number of regeneration agencies to offer support in creating and economic recovery for both rural and urban areas of the county.

The Energy Opportunities Supply Chain Project (EOSCP
The Energy Opportunities Supply Chain Project (EOSCP) is a joint project of WCDA and Britain’s Energy Coast-West Cumbria (BECWC). It aims to help West Cumbrian companies win business from the energy sector including:
• The nuclear industry - including decommissioning, new power station build, fuel reprocessing and waste management.
• Renewable Energy - including wind, wave, tide and bio power systems and the construction and development of those systems.
• The transmission and works associated with energy technologies based in West Cumbria – e.g. the new grid.
• Relevant opportunities in other major energy sectors e.g. oil and gas.
